Design
For every landscape there is a variety of possibilities, and we'll collaborate with you to find the best options for your needs and your lifestyle. Our design services range from creating complete landscape plans that consider privacy screening, circulation, the creation of gathering spaces, and plantings for color and interest, to designing specific areas such as entry gardens or other more discreetly targeted areas.
The goal of our design work is to help you maximize the use of your spaces. We strive to integrate your home and garden by enhancing the connection between indoors and outdoors and creating a series of spaces that unfold from one to the next. The mood and the character of the garden are considered as well as the function of the space. Interesting use of stonework, a deep knowledge of plants and how they actually perform in the landscape based on many years experience of landscape gardening, and exceptional craftsmanship and detailing are all part of our designs.
While we work in a variety of styles from formal to naturalistic, we have a particular interest in using native plantings and lawn alternatives to create gardens that are ecologically beneficial as well as functional and beautiful. We use a lot of ornamental grasses, native and non native, in large swaths that are elegant and nearly care free to create visual interest year round. Inspirations are the architecture of the home, the local natural environment, and the beauty of the natural world.
The design process begins with a working meeting at your home to clarify your needs and preferences followed by design development over the course of 2-3 meetings, depending on the size of the project.
Once the design is finalized, we provide you with complete pricing for your project installation and help you identify phases for the construction.
Construction
We work with the best crews to install your garden and will manage your project from start to finish. Our construction supervision insures that your landscape is faithful to the design and is completed in a timely manner with the high level of quality that we demand. Many impromptu but significant decisions, crucial to the success of a project, are often made on site, and we'll be there to manage all the details and update you daily.
Maintenance
We are trained horticulturists and we use our expertise to keep your plants healthy and blooming. We plant and tend flower gardens, offer expert small tree and shrub pruning, and site, plant, and care for vegetable gardens. We prune to enhance a plant's natural shape or 'habit' or to promote blooming. We fertilize with compost and other organic amendments to feed the soil, so the soil can feed your plants. And we can consult with you on how to add to or improve an existing garden. Our maintenance services are available on a regularly scheduled or occasional basis.

We bring a designer's eye to consulting with you on how to add to or improve an existing garden. And we emphasize outstanding personalized service.
We understand that most gardens need some care to look and perform their best, but as part of our organic philosophy, we also make a point not to do thing that don’t need to be done, like mulching annually whether it's needed or not, or overfertilizing.
For ten years we've worked with homeowners to keep their gardens blooming and beautiful. Our gardening services are available on a regularly scheduled or occasional basis from April to December. A complete list of our offerings can be found below:
Spring and Fall Cleanups
Cleaning up after winter, and putting the garden to bed for fall. Where possible we reuse leaf litter as a mulch in the garden and as a way to build your soil and cut down on bringing new mulch in every season. In the fall we shred leaves and return them to the beds. In spring, if new mulch is needed, it can be added on top of the leaves. Excessive amounts of leaves can be added to a compost pile on larger properties.
Fertilizing
We use compost and other organic amendments to feed the soil, so the soil can feed the plants. We take soil tests to see if fertilizers and pH adjustments are needed before we add them. Healthy soil leads to healthy plants, and that's what lowers maintenance.
Perennial garden care
Deadheading to extend bloom, cutting back to create lush new growth, pinching to stagger bloom times, thinning, and removing unattractive foliage are techniques that keep your plants vigorous and looking their best and make the difference between a mediocre garden and a remarkable one.
Small tree and shrub pruning
We prune to enhance a plant’s natural shape or 'habit', to control size, and to promote blooming. Proper pruning techniques require knowledge of a plants natural growth habit, the timing of its bud set, and an artistic eye.
Weeding, Edging, and Mulching
Mulching is crucial for keeping down weeds, conserving moisture, and preventing erosion in garden beds. Bark mulch and shredded leaves keep the earthworms and the soil happy. We can weed and edge beds for you as well.
-
Seasonal color displays
Planning and planting annuals in spring and summer, both in containers and in the ground, can give a long blooming shot of color to the landscape.
-
Vegetable Gardens
We can install a vegetable garden, start it off with proper soil prep, and set up a watering system. Edible plants can also be mixed into existing garden beds or planted in containers. Full sun or a minimum of 6 hours of direct light is required.

Topdressing Lawns
Although we do not mow lawns, we do offer compost topdressing and aerating to keep turf grass healthy. Along with keeping your blade sharp and mowing at the appropriate height, topdressing with compost and aerating the soil are the most important things you can do to have a healthy lawn.
-
Deer Management
Proper plant selection and combinations of safe organic controls really work to keep the deer off your prized plants. If you’ve been stymied in the past we may be able to help.
